April showers bring May flowers, but they also carry with them a wave of insects, bugs and other pests eager to invade your home.

Numerous insects plan to invade your home this Spring, including:

• Spiders: The warming of the season causes an influx of spiders to appear in your environment. While they play an important role in our ecological system, spiders usually wait until the warmer season to procreate and infest properties. House spiders are the most popular to be visiting you, as they crave the warmth of your home to lay eggs, appearing as brown or grey and about an inch in size.
• Ants: Most ants give birth in underground caves during the winter months, emerging with their new offspring during the spring. Adult ants slow their heart rate down during the colder months, appearing dead, but as the season warms, they return. The smell of your food and trash entices these ants. This causes an influx of ants to arrive at your front door during the beginning of spring.
• Mosquitos: As soon as the temperature hits 50 degrees, mosquitos prowl for their next meal –– you. Many species of mosquitoes lay their eggs in the winter only to break free as soon as spring hits. After their initial bite, a mosquito leaves behind an itchy bump that possibly carries with it the Zika virus, West Nile virus, Rift Valley fever, malaria or even heartworm to your pets.
• Earwigs: Earwigs are slender insects with pinchers on their bottoms, allowing them to attach to whatever warm host they please. Like most pests, they lay their eggs during the winter, only to re-emerge months later as soon as warmer weather hits. While they tend not to cause harm, you don’t want them in your garden this spring.
• Wasps: While not all wasps are bad, some have a particularly harmful stinger. Eggs hatch in spring, causing younger wasps to seek out new environments immediately, including your garage, home, basement and soil of your yard.
